Ideally, you’ll want your website to load under 3 seconds. Any longer and you’ll run the risk of users navigating away and forgetting about your site.
Website speed depends on a variety of factors, but can be narrowed down into 2 major factors: the site’s design (coding, cache plugins, etc) & the server speed.
Think of it as a car – the server speed is the engine and the site’s design is the car’s bodywork.
You can have the lightest, most aerodynamic body kit installed on your car, but if it’s running an old decrepit engine, you’ll be going nowhere real fast.
In other words, you’ll want your server to be as responsive as possible, so the website’s code can work its magic.
In terms of hard numbers, Google recommends a server response time of 200ms, but we think that a really good server should respond in 180ms – 10% faster than Google’s recommendation.
